How to Build a Gallery Wall - Gallery Wall Ideas and Tips
Hi BOP readers! Michelle here with Ellery Designs and today I am talking all things to help design your perfect gallery wall!  There are a few key elements you need to decide on before starting your wall.

1. Size. All depends on the size wall or the size gallery you want. The larger the wall, the larger you want your design to be so it doesn't look to small. Utilizing your space is key and you don't want it to look too cluttered or too weak.
2. Color. Neutrals? Black and White? Color? Remember, anything works but you want it to blend well within your home and be a focal point, yet not an eye sore.
3. Elements.
  • pictures and frames
  • mixing photos along with art and signs
  • adding in dimension with shelves or ledges
  • using different patterns/textures and different sized pieces.
4. Don't overthink. My main suggestion is to keep it clean. What do I mean by that? The main problem I often see is people using too small of objects and spreading them out too much. Keep things nice and close, you want it to look cozy, not underwhelming. Gallery walls are meant to impress. Go big or go home I say.

Kristi's signs are the perfect addition to any gallery wall and is my go-to shop when choosing beautiful signs for my walls. The key is to be sure you add different sizes and shapes to your wall decor.

Here is one of my favorite walls I designed for a client. She had one large wall that she wanted styled using some elements she already had and a few new pieces I found. This was a huge wall so I added somelarger pieces likethe shelf, the basket full of lemons and the rustic, bold clock.

This pallet wall and floating shelves photo is from my own home and it's a huge statement piece. My hubby designed the pallet wall and built the shelves and then it was my turn to style! I have five BOP hand painted signs on my wall - can you spot them? I'm all about wordy wall art and to some it may be a bit busy, but there can never be too many inspirational signs in my home! :)

This is a small black and white gallery wall I recently designed in our home. It's still a work in progress but that is the best thing about gallery walls! You can add things as you go without it looking too incomplete. I'm thinking a thin arrow or something for the bottom part of the wall but I'm still looking for that perfect piece.

Last but not least is this bright gallery wall from our finished basement. I first hung the shelves and decorated around those. This gallery wall has been a work in progress for years and has expanded greatly. Here's a before and after.

I love your ideas! I want to use a large clock(2ft x 2ft)dark wood w/white face, as a center focal point in a wall grouping. It’s on a 8ft wall space over couch. Just so undecided about what to add. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Where could I find a basket like the one you have the lemons in?

Love the sample gallery walls; it can be overwhelming to attempt it and your layouts are visually effective and lovely to boot. Thanks for the guidance and the eye candy!

Hi Michelle! Loved your suggestions and tips; but most of all LOVED the photos you shared! We did a gallery wall in our family room last year and I’m getting ready to do another in my basement. The shelves are a great suggestion and I’ll definitely add that dimensional element. Plus, your pallet wall, rocks! Thanks for your awesome post!
