December 11, 2019

I'm honestly not sure who thought this whole elf on the shelf thing was a good idea, but none the less, here we are.   I wonder if they realized that parents would be in a frenzy for the entire month of December, often waking up in the middle of the night.  Sitting straight up in bed.  Wondering if the elf had moved.  Overhearing other parents at school drop off, then lamenting whether or not their elf was doing "enough".    As if December wasn't already the busiest time of the year, now we are making elf sized donuts out of Cheerios and creating elaborate obstacle courses for our elf to maneuver.

I used to want that unicorn, or to have those precious 5 minutes to drink my coffee and to pee in peace.   Now I simply want the Elf to really be magical and to move himself.  It really isn't too much to ask for, is it?

Last night the weather forecasters predicted snow.  My kids were excited for a snow day.  They may have even flushed an ice cube or two before heading to bed.  I woke up early this morning, expecting to find a blanket of snow, and instead found only a dusting on the grass and trees.   I knew my kids would be disappointed.  While I was enjoying my hot coffee and the peace and quiet, I got an idea.  I grabbed some snowballs that I had actually purchased for a Christmas Party and whipped up a fun printable.

I created two printables, one you can use with the snowballs and one with just some small white pompoms or some paper snowflakes that you make with a paper punch

(you can download the printables here.  print them on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper and fold it in half to stand it up)

We are hoping for a white Christmas and if you are too, hopefully you'll have an occasion to use one or both of these printables before your Elf heads back to the North Pole for his long winters nap.

Does an elf visit your house?

Leave me some Elf inspiration in the comments!  I'm going to need lots and lots of ideas....and several daily reminders!!
