When our 8-year-old son, Connor, was chosen for our local Little League All Star Team, our chests swelled with pride: our boy — an All Star.
And then, the realization hit that we would be devoting yet another month to practices and games, right when we thought we were granted a breather from an especially long spring season.
As a former English major, it’s no surprise that I’m kind of obsessed with books. And, I mean actual physical books — you know, the kind that you open and are full of pages? I completely understand that Kindles and other tablet readers help save space, paper, and perhaps even time (no running to the bookstore), but, as long as we’re admitting things, I’ll be the first to raise my hand and confess that being practical isn’t exactly my strong suit. When I was little, I would spend Friday nights at my great grandmother’s house. I looked forward to this special time – being the youngest of three children meant I coveted any moment spent solo with an adult family member. It varied week by week – sometimes, a candy bar, other times, those orange circus peanuts. Either way, I delighted in the fact that it was just for me and didn’t need to be shared with anyone.

That’s not all you’ll be seeing from Cassie — we’ve asked her to join our team as a writer and editor, who’ll primarily focus on our blog.

i can't believe it's already May and that we are just a few weeks away from the end of school. it seems like just yesterday that we were stuffing backpacks with fresh new school supplies and crisp new notebooks. today those same backpacks are showing their months and months of wear and tear. papers are crumpled and crammed in the bottom along with broken crayons and well used pencils.
